130 Years of History Crafted with Technique and Authenticity: 'Matsuzaki Shuzo'

Founded in 1892 as a small koji maker in Tenei Village (天栄村), a pristine rice-producing region in Fukushima Prefecture, Matsuzaki Shuzo (松崎酒造) is a historic brewery that has crafted sake with master artisans' five senses and devotion for over 130 years.

Guided by the unwavering philosophy that "Technique Comes First" (技術が第一) over superficial flair, the brewery has maintained authentic, refined quality through meticulous brewing techniques passed down through generations. Refusing to rest on its laurels, Matsuzaki Shuzo continuously refines its craft to create "High-Quality Daily Sake" (上質の日常酒) that brings quiet joy to consumers' everyday lives.

A Next-Generation Premium Born from a Pure Stream: 'Hirotogawa'

Matsuzaki Shuzo's flagship premium brand, 'Hirotogawa' (廣戸川), derives its name from the historic stream that once flowed gracefully alongside the brewery.

Expanding beyond its legacy as a beloved local sake (jizake, 地酒) cherished by village residents, Hirotogawa broadened its distribution nationwide in 2011. Infused with the refined sensibilities of a new generation of young master brewers, it quickly emerged as a rising star in the contemporary premium sake scene.

With its outstanding quality proven by Gold Medals at the prestigious Japan National New Sake Awards, Hirotogawa boasts a transparent, clean savory depth (umami) and a crisp finish—crafted from the region's pure subterranean spring water and carefully selected sake rice. As an exceptional food-pairing sake (shokuchushu, 食中酒) that elevates the natural flavors of cuisine with flawless balance, Hirotogawa continues to captivate gourmets and sake enthusiasts worldwide.
